Heading north at last.
12 April 2012 | Off the coast.
Time to head north after having a rather complicated few months in La Cruz.
Ron's leg was the first to act up. I then got a terrible infection and ended up flying home for a couple of weeks.
Sailed into Matanchan Bay after replacing the fan belt. Boy was the surf up here.
A little rocky night but we slept.
Heading to Mazatlan by way of Isle Isabela but sea's too rough to stop.
Kept going avoiding the mine field of long lines and then during the night having problems with the auto pilot.
Wheel felt stiff and sluggish then loose. Not sure what's happening. Could be some thing around the rudder.
Managed to get on a coarse and stayed doing around 4 knots all night.
Checked in with the Port Captain before we arrived in Mazatlan and we were surprised when he contacted the Mexican Navy/Rescati.
They arrived about an hour later and what a wonderful bunch of guys.
Asked permission to come on board. Checked things out and sent a diver over board to look at the rudder. Stayed with us for a few miles and decided we would make it to the channel.
Big breakers hitting the channel entrance. Small power boat came over with the port Captain and gave us instructions on when to enter.
All in all a great experience. They also said No Charge! Can you believe.
Managed to get into our slip with the help of friends waiting for us at the dock.
