Arrival in Bridgetown, Barbados
11 December 2016 | Bridgetown Careenage

Hooray! We have made it! Crossed the mighty Atlantic Ocean in our own boat! We crossed the finish line at 08:16 this morning and then stern moored in the harbour on their new dock for a few hours. We were greeted by the Cornell team including the man himself, Jimmy, as well as crew from other boats who had arrived before us. An interesting visit to Customs and Immigration and a refreshing shower before we were on the go again to the nearby inner town basin or Careenage. We had some anxious moments waiting for the bridge to open and then stern moored in the basin. A dinghy assisted us with our front ropes to a mooring ball, but they were rather inexpert and we struggled to get the boat in its place, not helped by strong winds in the basin. But we got there in the end, and have since enjoyed a couple of beers at the beach bar and the requisite hamburger and chips. A long afternoon nap and off to the beach soon for a swim and another shower. Very hot and sticky here. Tomorrow we will hunt for SIM cards so we can skype/call/email friends and family.
