Marigot Bay

Ahh Marigot Bay - what a delightful place! We had a long day sail and motorsail from Bequia and arrived at about 4pm. We first tried to anchor but Gillian wasn't watching the depth very well and we bumped into a mud bank! Luckily it was a small bump and we got off very easily, and then decided to pick up a mooring ball instead with some very efficient help from the boat boy.
Marigot Bay is very sheltered with an exclusive marina and resort in the inner basin, and restaurants and small shops surrounding. The original 1969 Dr Dolittle movie was filmed here and there is a restaurant of that name in the bay.
Yesterday we walked up a steep hill to a little village with some magnificent views of the bay, and last night we had a great dinner at the Hideaway Restaurant in the bay. You take the dinghy under a little bridge and step off right into the restaurant - beautiful!
We have had a couple of drinks at the Hurricane Hole (thanks Joanna) with our friends from Persephone, and met Santa, an endearing Carribean fella who paddles his little boat around singing a song and wearing a Santa hat. He sells bread and bananas and little flax bowls, one of which we bought for an exhorbitant price!
We tore ourselves away this morning to make our way to Rodney Bay and we are now settled in the marina. Finally we have some decent wifi so are looking forward to a few Skype sessions with our family, and we have a few small boat jobs to be done. On Monday we will clear out of St Lucia and head to Martinique, our first French island.
