Day 1 Marquesas to Tuamotos

We went to bed early last night with the alarm set for 11.30pm. Anchor up and on our way at the stroke of midnight with a bit of a moon giving us some visibility. Initially we had little wind so excited motored but at about 4am the wind picked up and we were able to sail. We were hit by about three nasty little rain squalls with the wind picking up to 25knots. We put a reef in the main and then were sorted for any other nasties. This morning it was still a bit blustery but by midday the squalls disappeared and we have had some good sailing in 15 to 17 knots of ESE. After six months of the watermaker working faultlessly it has decided to give us problems and is struggling to build up the pressure needed to do its magic. It's a real devil to get started but once going seems to be okay, and poor Neil had his head in the aft locker for ages last night getting it started. He may need to pull it apart when we get to the Tuamotos as we will need it working well once there. Neil had to change the block for the self tacker this afternoon as the existing one was worn. Not very pleasant for him as the boat was bouncing around a bit and he got a bit wet where he was sitting at the front of the boat. But all done now, and we are hoping that reading the jib will be a little easier now. So all well so far and only three nights to go!
