Last UK port - Falmouth!

06 June 2016 | Falmouth Yacht Haven
Gillian
An early start again. At 7.30 in the morning we left Plymouth on our voyage to Falmouth. 5 knots of wind and calm calm sea. Sunny and hot in the cockpit so we were in our shorts and had to apply sunblock! First time we've done that in a while.
All went well until we got to Falmouth and had to dodge a fishing boat, and then a bouy with a long rope attached. We thought we had plenty of room going past the buoy but then noticed the rope so very quickly put the engine into neutral. We watched the rope whilst holding our breath as it floated under the boat, hooked a while on the rudder, and then slipt out and drifted away. Such a relief - the last thing we needed was rope in the propeller and no wind to sail!
Our arrival in Falmouth was beautiful. The sun was out, sea calm and Falmouth looked absolutely charming. We had one attempt trying to hook a mooring buoy but there was no rope attached and the shackle was lying flat, so had to go for the next one with success.
Pumped up the dinghy and then to shore to register at the Marina and then off to the pub for a celebratory pint!
Today Neil has been working but I have been exploring the town. We will be here for a few weeks until Neil returns from Germany, and then it is prep time for the notorious Bay of Biscay!
