Sea Shanty

We have had an enjoyable few weeks here in Falmouth. Gorgeous weather when we arrived and enjoyed the beautiful beaches and quaint environment.
Then the weather turned yuck, and Neil went to Germany and returned. While he was away I stayed on the boat on the mooring and over this time the wind and rain picked up and it was not very pleasant.
On his return things picked up a notch here. The Falmouth Classic was underway and we were in the perfect position to watch these beautiful wooden classic yachts raise their sails and head off to race. There has also been the Sea Shanty festival in town, with numerous Cornish folk bands singing in the pubs and the streets. We had a lot of fun popping in and out of pubs listening to the music.
Yesterday we took the train to Truro for a bit of shopping. A very pretty city, reminding us a bit of Winchester. We took the ferry back down the river Fal and that was very interesting. Apparently it is the second deepest harbour in the world and ships will moor in there. We were told that numerous navy ships often come up the river to moor. It is very sheltered from the wind and a great place to go if you want to get away from everything.
Tomorrow we are having the boat hauled out to clean the bottom and are hoping to leave for Portugal on Thursday. We are both studying the grib files at the moment with the weather looking promising for next week with a big high arriving and bringing northerly winds, perfect for sailing to Portugal.
