Seaforth - The Holiday of a Lifetime

A Tender Behind

We've known that for some time that the tubes on our Walker Bay dinghy were on their last legs. A few repairs had not stopped the slow (and then eventually not so slow) leaks. We'd had some verbal indications of the cost of replacement from Safety At Sea, but when we dropped the dinghy in the get a firm quote, the price suddenly skyrocketed (we'd had similar experiences with them when we had a danbouy serviced). After some quick internet searches, I found a company in our old home town of Kumeu that built tenders and dinghies. I contacted them and arranged to take it in for a quote. Upon driving into their yard, I found it was full of Sealegs - the NZ built amphibious craft that is doing very well worldwide. I had a chat to Mark there and he was very helpful and gave me pricing on the spot for either PVC or Hypalon. After numerous questions via email, we decided to go with the hypalon, which is their speciality. A few weeks later, and we were very pleased with our new tubes. The boys did a great job and it looks great. Doyles are just about to finish the covers that will give further protection - not only from UV damage, but also our dog's claws as they eagerly hang out the front :)

So, thanks to Explorer Inflatables - we highly recommend them!

About: So we're a couple in our 40s and we've decided to abandon a responsible life with careers and stuff, sell the farm and the cars and go sailing instead. Stuff it, I might die before I get to retire so let's have fun now .... there might be time to work later.
Extra: Oh yeah ... we've got 2 dogs as well .... border collies (cute!). That's gonna make life interesting on a boat isn't it? Oh and in case you were wondering, that isn't a photo of either of us in the string vest ... or anyone we know either.
