Star Wars Bay

14 December 2013 | Kauakarau Bay, Waiheke Island, NZ
Ade & Steve
We've finally dropped the dock lines this morning. After a re-fuel at Orams, we headed out towards Waiheke Island. The wind was a bit patchy 3-10 knots, so we motored all the way, and are how sitting in Kauakarau Bay. We call it Star Wars Bay - and here's why: The resident Tuis (native NZ birds for our overseas readers) in this area have a specific song pattern that includes chirps that sound like laser blasters in the Star Wars movies. When the Tuis are singing up a storm in the early morning, all you can hear is "pyoo, pyoo, pyoo" and it sounds like you're in the middle of a Star Wars laser battle. The other parts of the Tui song that are more familiar don't seem to travel across water very well as we only get the laser effects. So, we call it Star Wars Bay :)

About: So we're a couple in our 40s and we've decided to abandon a responsible life with careers and stuff, sell the farm and the cars and go sailing instead. Stuff it, I might die before I get to retire so let's have fun now .... there might be time to work later.
Extra: Oh yeah ... we've got 2 dogs as well .... border collies (cute!). That's gonna make life interesting on a boat isn't it? Oh and in case you were wondering, that isn't a photo of either of us in the string vest ... or anyone we know either.
