Sailing to Anguilla
30 May 2013 | Eastern Caribbean
I’d like to say we have had such full days of fun and excited I just haven’t had time to update the blog but in reality, I am lazy. We left the US Virgin Islands quickly and didn’t even bother to go to the BVI’s. A little disappointing, especially, St. John because we really wanted to do some snorkeling and hiking and meet up with our old friends on Moonsail but the weather window was perfect for going east again where we could actually shake out the sail and turn off the motor so we left. No rats or spiders in the main, Yea. We sailed with 2 other boats, Windlass and Field Trip and did an overnight to Anguilla. We have never gone that far east and it was our chance to get there. It was a perfect trip. Sailed all night, no motor, on a beam reach. Anguilla is a beautiful island and one of the more upscale places. Beautiful harbor, lots of palm trees and little beach side bars. The beaches all over the island are crystal blue water and white, white sand. We rented a car for the day and toured with Pete and Dee on Windlass. We saw many big fancy houses and one fantastic beach after another. I have included a few pictures but it’s really hard to capture the beauty and I am not a good picture taker. One day we all got on Field Trip (big catamaran) and we sailed out to an island called Prickly Pear Cay. We had lots of fun snorkeling and swimming and watching the turtles. We also had a ton of banana quit birds (very small) come sit on our hands and eat sugar. Lots of fun, especially for the kids on Field Trip. I put in a picture of the islands as we sailed along. It’s not something people see when they fly into one of the islands just visit. These islands are what we have been seeing all the way from turning the corner at Haiti to past all the Virgin Islands.
