Filling in the Blanks
28 March 2011
It's been a while since I've posted and we've covered a lot of ground. We left Cambridge Cay and moved up a short way to Shroud Cay, another part of the Exuma Land and Sea Park. This is another fantastic place with no habitation. We did a lot of snorkelling and we're becoming quite confident in jumping into the water and mixing it up with the numerous sizes, shapes and colors of fishes including barracudas and other fierce looking creatures. There is some bad weather coming so we need to find a place with good protection from easterly winds and decide to head to Highbourne Cay. On the way, however, we want to stop into Norman's Cay, the former laird of the infamous drug lord who had established a very comprehensive infrastructure of airports, habitation and other institutions in support of his then lucrative drug transportation network. There remains a fair bit of the infrastructure including the airstrip and roads but the most attractive part (aside from the fantastic beaches) is a restaurant called MacDuffs. Judy dearly wants to have a meal here so we stop here for lunch on our way to Highbourne Cay. We have a great meal but need to get back underway to get to our destination and hunker down before the anticipated winds pipe up.
We anchor on the west side of Highbourne Cay in the company of numerous other boats including several Mega Yachts and prepare to wait out a moderate blow
