We spent two glorious days at Exuma Cay Land and Sea Park (Warderick Wells). We hiked and swam and revelled in the beauty of this place.
Our next stop was Normans Cay, once home of the notorious drug lord Carlos Lederer. We went for a walk on this Island and remarked at what was obviously once a sophisticated and modern home base for this drug lord's empire. There is an airstrip, roads, wharf, numerous buildings, electrical power grid and apparently all the amenities which would have supported a thriving drug trafficking enterprise. Most of it has fallen into disrepair but there is one restaurant/bar called MacDuffs which is very pleasant. We had lunch there. It was very good but expensive but you have to consider the additional cost of transportation of items to this island.
From Normans Cay we sailed a few miles up to Allan's Cay, home of the iguanas. We spent two days in this great anchorage and met more Canadians, specifically No Justice and Roxie.
Our next stop after Allan's Cay is Nassau and this will signal the end of our two months in the Exumas. It has been a wonderful experience. We saw so many marvellous places, met great folks and had a lot of fun in Georgetown. Judy loved her swims, Chopin his walks and I the sailing, which we have finally been able to do.
We will return!
