Laughter in the morning

25 January 2013 | Ipala
Craig
I guess I shouldn't have made the quip about the palapa in Yelaypa yesterday. Early this morning as we were trying to make a quick get-away after a very rolly, sleepless night, we discovered that our mooring line was hopelessly tangled in the line and two uplift jugs that "Buly" considers a mooring ball. We tried to yell to shore for him to come out and assist us in untangling with no luck. So Sue got on our radio and asked for help: "Any Palapa in Yelapa, Any Palapa in Yelapa this is the sailing vessel Seasilk requesting assistance." When she realized her mistake, then tried to correct with: "I mean any Panga in Yelanga." Our laughter should have awakened the whole town. Sadly it did not, so Craig resorted to use of our PA system which had the desired result of bringing the nearest panga fishing boat to our rescue. Five minutes and 20 pesos later we were underway to Ipala. I just hope we don't loose an "Impeller in Ipala!"

Today is first day since the beginning of the trip where I actually have all systems on the boat working as designed. The new alternator and the generator are both working flawlessly.

Ipala is a small cove beside a fishing village that has such a large fish pen that there is very little space left for anchorage. We have found a spot comfortably far from the local pinnacle hazard called "La Roca." (Ever wonder how may La Rocas there are in Mexico?) Its just before sunset and there are only three other boats (the two shrimp trawlers left for the night), so its not crowded.
