The boys and I finally made it away for a long weekend, sailed from Mandurah up to Penguin Island where Tom and I spent 15 minutes with a young seal, swimming around each other and looking at each other, what a pet they would make. The club sailed down to Long Pt so we all got together at the BBQ area and chatted about sailing, what else is there to talk about. Here is a photo of the boys about to hit the water.

The Xmas holidays are here, so for the first weekend Riley and I headed off to Dawesville with a few of the MOFSC yachts. The easterly breeze made for a great sail down there where we had an afternoon nanny nap, age is catching up. That evening we all had a few light refreshments followed by prawns on the BBQ. After a great nights rest we headed on back to busy Mandurah with the dolphins picking us up just off Halls Head. It was great to see so many yachts out on the ocean, many taking advantage of the good easterly breezes to head south to Bunbury and on to Quindalup for Xmas, unfortunately we cannot make the trip this year.

Most of the yachts from MOFSC headed down to Dawesville for the day, a great showing from everyone. The Urchin took line honours to arrive, do I have to add that I left some 3 hours before anyone else! With a perfect breeze, lots of easterly, we made Dawesville without tacking, such a rare event. So here is the photo.

We headed off to Dawesville with our new purchase from the Mandurah Boat Show, a new tender to replace the one that slowly disintegrated on my journey south. I sold the old one for 5 cents, it was a cheap import that could not stand up to the Australian sun, the glue on the seams slowly gave way and I was left with something that resembled a plastic bath. Once in Dawesville the boys spent hours motoring up and down a small channel gaining valuable dingy hours. That night we had a BBQ, where I burnt the meat, and sat back for a few quiet beers. The following morning it was a tail wind cruise back to the now packed Mandurah Marina with Riley attempting to eat all the leftover food on the yacht before we made port.

After a very windy day at Rottnest I set out for the final sail to Mandurah, there was still a large swell running but with reasonably favourable winds I was able to make the bottom of Warnbro Sound before turning over the Yanmar for the final miles. The Urchin is now in her pen and all clean, I have removed the ton of equipment so her waterline is now showing again. The trip south covered 2154 NM with 1622 NM being solo at an average speed of around 4.3 knots, considering a lot of the conditions were relatively light that isn't to bad for a little yacht. Now the Urchin is going to participate in the local MOFSC cruising and racing and spending her time between Rottnest and other local cruising spots, Riley, the yachts true skipper gave her his seal of approval. The family is now off for a holiday in Malaysia and then back home in time for the summer cruising season. And the final picture is the family I missed so much during the time away.
