Hello from SW Florida.
We all know that summer in SW Florida is Hurricane Season....but it's all been quite quiet; up 'till now. Tonight tropical storm Fay is approaching Cuba, and expected to cross the Florida Keys, strengthen to hurricane status and head for SW Florida. Hourly, the projected track from the National Hurricane Center, keeps changing, some showing a direct hit & others show the eye of the storm just off the coast. The local news is predicting more than hurricane force winds on the coast Monday night & Tuesday morning. It seems we'll get the 'dirty' side of the storm with the strongest winds....maybe five to seven foot storm surge.
Yesterday (Saturday) we moved Seawing to a more secure slip & secured her with many, many dock-lines. We quickly completed replacement of one leaking port, finished installation of a mast boot & moved all of our mountainous pile of wood and materials off the dock and into the van. The dingy & some other minor items are waiting 'till Monday morning to be moved.
We are kind of excited....have a video camera ready and are waiting for some storm so we can do our CNN Anderson Cooper impression, hanging on to something while the wind and raid lash us....telling everyone watching how no-one should be outside in weather like that. ?
Glenn.
