| The Crew: | A Nova Scotian family finally decides to act on their dream of sailing away on an eight-month voyage to explore, learn, challenge their abilities (within reason!) and, of course, to have fun! To contact us, e-mail armdalecove@yahoo.ca or optimistdiving@yahoo.ca ! | ||
| Something Extra: |
"We" are Judy and Steve, Stephanie (11) and Marine(8), all four very much "water people". Judy grew up next to Halifax's Northwest Arm, and learned to sail at a young age, competing and instructing in boats big and small, near-shore and off-shore. Steve was introduced to sailing as an officer in the Naval Reserve, and his first "date" with Judy was sailing in a blizzard during Frostbite races at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, of which they are members. The girls were introduced to sailing from the get-go, and for the past six years we all enjoyed sailing and racing in our first sailboat, "Robin's Nest", a Grampian 26 that has served us well! Steph sails an Optimist dinghy and has raced at the local and national level, and Marine now has her own Opti as well. We live on the shores of the Northwest Arm, tucked in behind Deadman's Island, and our location has enabled us to meet sailing families visiting Halifax from around the world, who have all encouraged us to sail off on our own adventure. Tired of living vicariously through others' stories and looking at faraway places on charts to keep track of them all, we finally decided to make it happen for ourselves. While we have always taken the girls with us on our "big" trips to Europe and South America for three to four weeks at a time, this will definitely be a "bigger" trip! | ||
