Lets all recycle!

I just finished reading a great book called Coming About by Dave Gale, who, at a tender young age, moved first to Hopetown in the Abacos in the mid 1950's and later, leased/purchased Parrot Cay, a small island near Elbow Cay. He writes about life in the Bahamas on a number of interesting topics, one of which is on the glass balls that used to wash up on every beach, as they were universally used on fishing nets to keep them afloat. He talks about the magical beauty of these lost artifacts, and, having traveled throughout the Abacos, it is good to know why so many homes have collections of them hanging from trees in their yards. They are found art!
Today's replacement for net flotation is not nearly as attractive. On beaches not used by resorts, etc, this is an all too common sight. Lee and I generally try to clean up a bit, but there are no garbage cans, recycling bins or dumps in the area and I suspect that after a few days, even if we managed to get rid of everything on the mile plus beach now, it would be back. Plastic takes over a hundred years to deteriorate, some (like plastic foam) will really never decompose. I think I have my cause now.
