Flinder's Island

June 2, 2012 Up at 6 and away by 6:30. We hoped that the near gale force winds had abated (as the weather forecasters were predicting)--but we got blasted again as we left Lizard Island. As we were heading west, back to the mainland, we were getting rolled by the waves on the beam. Once we turned north, the waves were more tolerable and it actually turned out to be a nice trip-- nice and fast. We decided to skip Cape Melville anchorage and headed to Flinders Island. We arrived at Owen Channel, between Flinders and Stanley islands, to find our friends on Sea Eagle II and Liberte already there. We anchored in 28 feet of water--deep for around here. The wind died down and the anchorage became a calm mill-pond-- absolutely glassy! After a great night (we slept in until 7am), we were on our way.....
