We spent three weeks in Papeete, and Tahiti was a milestone for us. We arrived in French polynesia at Hiva Oa, and we visited most of the Marquesan islands and two Tuamotu Atolls, Tahiti is really French Polynesia. I mean everyone has heard of Tahiti -- Captain Cook, The Bounty, and Bligh. But, Papete is a big city with lots of cars, exhaust, crowds, trash, and noise. The beauty of Papeete is the people-- who are wonderful. Two of our sons, Scott and Chris, and Chris's girlfriend (Niloo) joined us in Papeete for a week. We enjoyed snorkeling inside the reef, the inland tour, the roulettes downtown, church singing, capuchinos and croissants at the Retro cafe', the Carrefour supermarket, and pizza at Casa Bianca. But three weeks were enough and we felt that old itch to move on. Our next stop--Moorea (fabled Bali-hai).
