March 7, 2011 Scott, Chris, and Niloo came to New Zealand for a whirlwind tour of the North and South Islands. We took them to see Hobbiton, The Waitomo caves, Queenstown, and Franz Josef. We went mountain biking, parasailing, luging, hiking, and heli-rafting. We had a ball although we did have a near-death experience when our raft flipped over on the Whataroa river. I injured my ankle, Chris cracked a rib, Scott got banged up, and we all almost drowned--it was awesome! We flew back to Auckland and after a quick tour of the city they were off on their jet for home:(

North Island
04/16/2011

We were back on North Island and after a night in Wellington, we headed up the west coast to Palmerston. There was not much to do in Palmerston, a farming town inland from the coast, except go to the mall. We then went up to New Plymouth which was kinda cool and artsy. They had a long coastal walkway and the motel we stayed at had free bikes to use--so off we went. It was a sunny day and the bikeway/walkway was awesome--not to be missed. I especially liked the pedestrian/bike suspension bridge made to look like a breaking wave. After New Plymouth, we spent one night back in Wellington then back to Auckland and our repaired Serenity.

On to Nelson
04/16/2011

February 10, 2011 We were going to spend one night in Greymouth, the second largest city in the south island, however, as there was a triathelon going on, there wasn't a room to be had. So we continued up the road to a small mining town called Reefton where we spent the night in a Rustic motel-- note the capital 'R'. The interesting thing about Reefton was the food at the pub--it was fantastic. We left for Nelson the next day--stopping at the Waka river to try our hand at gold panning and zip lining. We arrived at Nelson and found our friends Steve and Trish (Curious), Allan and Alison (Fly aweigh), and Michael and Gloria (Paikea Mist) all in the campground. We had a great time with them and went to dinner in Nelson at a Thai restaurant. It was a 'Sweetpea Fan Club' reunion and great memories were made. We left in the morning for Picton where we took the ferry over to Wellington. NOTE: There is a lack of photos as my little Sony digital camera got water logged in the Lake Matheson hike.
