Ile des Pins--New Caledonia
01 October 2011
9-17-2011 We left Port Moselle at Noumea and motored to Ile Ouen. Along the way we saw turtles, dolphins, and whales--it was a perfect day. We anchored in Koute Bay on Ile Ouen to break up the passage to Ile des Pins. Koute Bay was like a large inland lake-- as calm as could be. Our friends Ken and Lori on S/V Trim were the only other boat in this huge bay. We enjoyed snorkeling in the pass and shell hunting on the beach--we found some nautilus shells which are way cool. On the morning of the next day I noticed two large fish swimming around our boat just below the surface, and turning to look up at me. They became our pets--eating everything we tossed to them. Ken said they were snappers--they did have very large front teeth. After three nights of extreme peace we upped anchor for Ile des Pins.
