Port Clinton and Middle Percy
27 April 2012
April 21, 2012 We left Keppel Isle Marina at 7 am-- we had to pay close attention to the tides as the marina entrance has 1.1 meter depth at low tide! We had to motorsail (surprise) up to Clinton Harbor, which is very protected. Again, we had to cross a shallow entrance bar-- but once inside the depth dropped to over ninety feet. We saw one other power boat come into the harbor--but he disappeared up into the mangroves. We had this huge bay all to ourselves and had a peaceful night. Up early and off to Middle Percy Island! When we arrived at Middle Percy island we anchored off the West Bay anchorage and saw M/V Oso Blanco-- a sixty-five foot Nordhaven motor yacht. We were on the same dock in Mexico as Oso and we have seen them throughout the Pacific. After working on our outboard motor for awhile (to no avail)--we rowed ashore. Brad met us on the beach and helped us pull the dinghy up above the tide line. Brad lives alone in a tree house overlooking the bay. He gave us a tour of his home and we nicknamed him Ben Gunn (check out he photos). We also toured the sailor's hut on the beach--which ws actually quite a large A-frame hut. It has decades of momentos from boats that have stopped here--it is kind of a tradition. We added a signed 2010 Puddle Jump t-shirt that had Serenity printed on the back. We spent a peaceful night at M. Percy and were again up early for our voyage to Scawfell Island. By the way--I usually put out two troll lines each day and have caught NADA, ZIP, except for some sea weed!
