Major Attractions: Olive growing and processing facilities. Funicular to top of Mt. Kankakei, cycling paths. Peaceful and picturesque.
Nearest Port of Entry: Takamatsu
Formalities Arrival: Prior permission should have been sought from the Ministry of Lands to enter the harbor. On arrival call Coast Guard on VHF16, but it is unlikely they will respond. This is a closed port.

Harbour master: Not required to visit
Berthing Mooring Options: The med mooring berting facility is within the very small fishing harbour some distance into the canal beside the ferry berths. Tidal range is about 3 metres.
Anchorage Options: Anchorage may be had at several locations within the port area but it is not recommended.
Yacht Club Facilities: None although toilet facilities are available at the ferry ticket office.

Fuel: Arrangements may be made for a minitanker with the Shell or Eneos stations in town.
LPG: Available, however, non Japanese tanks are difficult to refill due to Government safety regulations. Ocassionally, some gas resellers will fill your tank, especially if it is a small family owned establishment.
Marine Vendors: None
ATMs: As always the most efficient way to get money from your overseas account in Japan is through the Post Office system of ATMs. There is an office located about 3 minutes walk from the wharf .The 114 Bank can deal in foreign currency.
Shops & Markets: There are a few small convenience stores around the anchorage. The main shopping facilities are in Olive Town, Tonosho, 10 minutes on foot. A large Maruyoshi Supermarket, pharmacy and Daiwa hardware stores can be found here.
Postal Services: There is an office located about 3 minutes walk away.
Hotels & Restaurants: There are several hotels in town, plus a ryoken and three hostels. Several restaurants of varying grades dot the area and fast foods are available at Olive Town. Shodoshima Kokusai Hotel (0879)62-2111
Internet/Phones: See "All about the Internet in Japan" on this Blog. International coin and card 'phones are available in the ferry terminal. No wifi at the Harbour. Laundry Services: Coin laundry available at Ohkido Hotel, 5165-216 Kou, Tonosho-cho, Shodo-gun, Kagawa
Air/Sea/Road Transport: Ferries to Takamatsu, Osaka and Kobe depart regularly from here.
A regular bus service (stop located outside the ferry terminal) operates around the island. Get a day ticket. Bicycles may be rented from Ishii Cycles (62-1866)
Special Notes: This is an excellent location from which you can go and explore the rest of Shodo Shima Island.
