Shamrock Sailing Adventures

For 12 years Shamrock has been our family cruising vessel. She joined a dynasty of sailing vessels we've depended on to plow the Carolina waters around Cape Lookout National Seashore, Beaufort, Charleston, & Georgetown, etc.

Charleston RaceWeek

Had a great time at the 2015 Race week event. Shamrock was not the fastest boat, but perhaps had the most fun and celebrated making in over the finish line prior to time expiring!

Charleston Bound

Tuesday 6 AM will begin heading south to Charleston via Snow's Cut, Cape Fear River and offshore to Charleston Harbor entrance. Looking forward to a nice down wind run with the current forecast. Look forward to meeting other cruising vessels along the way.

Great Sailing Weather

Great weekend of sailing off the NC Coast. The winds were out of NE with 15 kts. steady most of the afternoon as we went out for a four hour sail around Wrightsville Beach. We dropped the hook in Banks Channel for the evening, and watched as the paddle boarders worked their way against the tide. [...]

New Log Book

Starting a new log book for Shamrock today. Inspired by the Banjo posts from St. Kitts this morning. Look forward to checking in with friends and family while cruising this spring and summer.

Last year I tested my knowledge & skills by taking the USCG exam for a 6 passenger captain's license. Receiving the credential opened up new possibilities. This spring, we officially launched Shamrock Sailing Adventures, a charter service exploring the coastal waters around our home port of Wrightsville Beach, NC. We're looking forward to showing visitors the amazing marine life and water fowl that call this place home. Jim/Partly Cloudy
The S/V Miss Emily was out stretching things out on the water on Saturday. It's a beautiful thing to see a Bristol Cutter move along in such winds and waves.

Today was round 2 with similar winds and waves about 3 ft. After a few hours, Shamrock made her way back in MSB against an outgoing tide. The number of snowbirds returning up the ICW is steady now, with some diminishing numbers from the prior weeks. Banks Channel anchorage has been quite full in recent weeks, but I noticed only a dozen other vessels anchored out last evening.
