Our friend Suzi from Oklahoma City came up on Friday to stay with us for 2 to 3 weeks. Today the weather was nice and the bay calm enough that we took her out to our swimming hole for a few hours. Barb got to show off a little by backing us out of our slip around 13:00 and down the river. When we entered the bay, the water was a little rough so she turned the helm over to me and I took us on out to our destination, then turned the helm back over to her while I went forward to drop and set the anchor.

We anchored out with two other boats from our club. I went in the water for a little while then came back aboard for lunch and a nap. Afterwards Barb took the helm and brought us back to our slip getting back around 17:00.

Cap'n Barbie backed us out of our OYC slip around 13:00, headed down the Oconto River and into the Bay of Green Bay where we anchored out in the Oconto Bay not far from our swimming hole for lunch and a few games of farkle. The SeaTel satellite TV system worked all the way out until we started back then it lost it's tracking. We returned back to our OYC slip around 17:00.

Swimming hole

20 August 2011 23:08:41, Oconto, Wisconsin

We went back out to the swimming hole again today. Barb piloted the boat there & back. She even docked us in our slip without hitting anything. A few more times & she'll be a pro at it. Then we'll have to start calling her Cap'n Barbie.

Wave Point

28 July 2011 21:07:58, Little Sturgeon Bay, WI

We took the boot out today for a day cruise to Wave Point Resort/Marina in Little Sturgeon Bay. I'm learning how to drive the boat slow hoping to get close to 2 miles per gallon out of it so it was 6.5 MPH over and 7.5 miles back. Either speed it was 2 1/2 hours one way.

A warm summer cruise in the Bay of Green Bay
Cap'n Kenny
19 July 2011 17:07:01, Bay of Green Bay, Wisconsin

Today was going to be a warm one here in Oconto. There's no wind and the bay is like glass. I convinced Barb to get out of bed at 11:30 this morning and have lunch somewhere out on the bay. She packed a couple of sandwiches and some fruit and we headed out a little after noon.

I first set a course for Sturgeon Bay then changed course heading instead to Little Sturgeon. We were about halfway across the bay when we stopped, turned off the engines, and had a picnic lunch while floating out in the middle of the bay, listening to oldies on the satellite radio.

After lunch I set a course to the Oconto County park #2. Our top speed on this trip was about 7 mph so it was taking us a lot of time to get anywhere. We were in no hurry to get someplace so we took our time. Barb worked on her Swedish weaving project and I kept the boat on course while we both listened to oldies music. I really like satellite radio on the boat.

After getting to the Oconto County park I changed course again heading back toward Oconto along the coast. About halfway back from the park I spotted a couple of other yacht club members anchored just outside the Oconto Harbor at one of the swimming holes so we headed their way. We stopped and anchored for about a half hour then decided to head back home. We both had a wonderful day of just relaxing while slowly cruising on the bay where it was a lot cooler.

Shakedown Cruise
Cap'n Kenny
16 July 2011 21:07:00, Oconto Yacht Club, Oconto, WI

We launched the Shangri-La last Sunday but I still had to complete some systems before going out with her. So after finishing hooking up the fresh water system, and making sure I had a working head on the boat, Barb and I left the docks for a short shakedown cruise down the Oconto River, out a quarter mile or so into the Bay of Green Bay, then returned back to the yacht club. The boat run good and handled well.
