Down River
06 May 2012
Finally got off the wall Friday morning at 11:30. Great trip down the Connecticut River, beautiful scenery, beautiful homes, and flat water, too bad the sun wasn't shining. Only one incident enroute; we were told that "although it looks close, there is no problem passing under the East Haddam bridge, bigger boats than yours pass under with no problem"; however, while passing under the bridge we heard a "rat-a-tat-tat" and discovered that we had lost 6" off our big VHF antenna.
Secured Friday evening in Essex Ct. at the Essex Island Marina; and finally some sunshine! We had to take a ferry to the mainland (pontoon boat - approx. a 45 sec. ride.) This is a typical (beautiful) New England town. After departure for Block Is,RI. yesterday, we discovered a fuel leak on one of the engines, so we had to put into Old Saybrook,Ct. Hope to have this problem resolved tomorrow.
The dockmaster at this marina, once he discovered we were from N.S,. asked if we were from "The Royal" or "Armdale Yacht Club". He was born in Halifax and used to race snipes at AYC. He's been here in this area since 1960.
Beautiful moon lit night here in Old Saybrook, Ct.
