Bucksport is "in the middle of nowhere" SC. That's what Jeff, the owner of the marina told us, but he said his son Jeffrey would be happy to drive us anywhere we wanted to go. Jeffrey was a total gem, he drove us where we needed to go and then took us to his favorite restaurant, Luvans Fish Camp, and had dinner with us. He was a wealth of information about the history of Bucksport. The Marina is built on the site of a former plantation and many of the current residents of Bucksport are descendants of the slaves who worked on the plantation. Bucksport, SC is named after the same Mr. Buck as Bucksport, Maine, so says Jeffrey. We'll always remember Jeffrey!
