Cruising So CalSteve
06/06/2010, So Cal
Just finished up a nice week with two different out of town potential crew members. I'm excited about cruising the So Cal coast and am lineing up trips. I am now planning to take at least a month in August/Sept. and go coastal cruising in the beautiful So Cal waters. This means giving up the comfortable Sun Harbor slip, it also means that the rest of the projects need to get done quickly.
Heavy weather sailingSteve
One nice thing about sailing in San Diego is we don't really get much heavy weather...the bad thing about sailing in San Diego is we never really get much heavy weather. Thats where the Modern Sailing Club comes in....just spent a week in Sausalito sailing with Captain JT Meade. We were hit hard coming out of the gate and Ma Nature didn't really let up much for the next 4 days. We had consistant winds of 20-25 knots and gusts over 30, we had seas of 10-12 feet with wind chop added on. The good news is that I came away neither intimadated or scared but with 110% confidence that I can handle those conditions. That said....one nice thing about coastal cruising is that hopefully you can avoid those conditions by keep a close eye on the weather forecasts (hopefully).
Lining up crew05/05/2010, San Diego
Si Bon is getting ready fast to go cruising. I now need to actively start lining up qualified crew. We will meet for a day sail and take it from there. Possible So Cal trips include;
She has a lovely bottom02/08/2010, Shelter Island Boatyard
Well lots of things are getting done. Si Bon has a nice new coat of paint on her bottom. While she is on the hard (that's sailor talk for out of the water) she is getting a grounding plate for our SSB radio, also, as always the boat repair people have a few other "little" things that need to get done. She also is without her sails as they are being tuned up and one little repair done on the main clew.
Back from Mission BaySteve
01/18/2010, San Diego Bay
Back home from maiden voyage. Everthing went very well...great wind, even on our early morning run back to watch the Chargers make fools of themselves. We ate like kings thanks to Mike and Russ.....love you guys!
The plan is in motionSteve
01/14/2010, San Diego
I'm getting ready for my first overnighter on Si Bon this weekend. Mike Richmond, Russ Carlson and myself are leaving my slip in Sun Harbor Marina Saturday AM and going up to Mission Bay. The wimpy Russ will spend the night is his ocean front condo while Mike and myself will be toughing it out on Si Bon. We plan to get up early and motor sail back to Sun Harbor so we can watch the San Diego Charger playoff game against the Jets.
