Still in the Saintes

20 February 2015 | Les Iles des Saintes, Guadeloupe
Lynn
Yup, still in the Saints. With big northerly swells in the forecast, and when they aren't a problem, stronger winds than we find comfortable for sailing between islands, we have been hanging out.

It's is funny, the island we are on is small enough that for me to get a decent long run in, the map afterwards looks like some kind of bizarre knot, something you would take a sword to, maybe. However, the weather is decent, and Ken enjoys walking here, so that is a huge bonus, and makes my getting dizzy running in circles worthwhile. And it IS the home of the best baguettes in the Eastern Caribbean, always a happy thing.

It looks like we will head up the leeward coast of Guadeloupe on Monday, with eyes to head farther up, towards Antigua or Montserrat, after that. To be honest, the Saintoise are very nice, and their island charming, but we are less enamoured with the French from France. I'm still debating whether to blog on them or not... briefly, I will say that as tourists and cruisers, they are not a genteel bunch. We have many ex-pat French friends, and they are NOT the same at all.

WiFi is still spotty on the boat but that just means going ashore and buying a draft beer... and maybe remembering the password in case our WiFi antenna on the boat sees the bar, too...

But we have hiked up to Le Chameau (the Camel, and the highest point on this island) and have revisited our favourite places here. We also remembered that the hike to Fort Caroline is NOT on our list of favourite hikes, something we hope to remember next time we visit. But we are getting a little itchy to get moving along...
