| The Crew: | Gary: An independent and determined sort, having worked for himself in a very small business all of his adult life. Gary is accustomed to getting things done with the resources at hand and hard work. Gary started his sailing life at the age of 20 with a Hobie Cat. He has chartered numerous times in the Caribbean, and also owns a 26-foot Contessa on Lake Erie named “KYPU.” He started his own land development business almost 30 years ago, and has nurtured this niche with his expertise in land, but he seems quite eager to turn the page from the chapters of land to the sagas of the sea. Lisa: Also has always been a hard worker and has had almost every job under the sun. In her early 30’s she finally realized what she wanted to be when she grew up. Lisa entered college for the first time and graduated three years later with a degree in Dental Hygiene. Now working in the land business with Gary and occasionally filling in for several dentists. | ||
| Something Extra: |
Gary and I met six years ago. One of our first dates was onboard KYPU, where we sailed into the sunset while getting to know each other better. He neglected to tell me the engine did'nt work. He said we'd be doing things "the old fashioned way".I had never sailed before and fell immediately in love with sailing; my love for Gary took a bit longer. Gary and I were married December 26, 2003 at a fireside ceremony in our log home in the woods. After a skiing honeymoon with our four children, we chartered a catamaran in the British Virgin Islands — just the two of us. It was then that we decided we would someday have our own cat and sail until we couldn’t. In February 2005 we attended the Miami Boat show. We visited Gary’s father in Juno Beach, Florida and took a day trip to Miami, with no intention of buying a boat just yet. As we toured the massive and gorgeous array of yachts, we began to dream of a life onboard. We happened upon a gem when we boarded the deck of Tee Time, a 38-foot Admiral catamaran from South Africa. The quality and craftsmanship far exceeded anything we had seen so far — and anything that we would see for the rest of the day. After touring the rest of the yachts, we just had to revisit Tee Time and take a closer look at her. Before we knew it we were staring at a contract to purchase our very own Admiral 38. Besides the quality of Admiral Yachts, the whole purchase package was far better than that of any other company in the market. Not only did they include everything anyone could ever want or need on their boat, they also threw in a trip to Cape Town, South Africa, along with a delivery captain and crew to sail the Atlantic with us while we participated in the delivery of our own boat and the adventure of a lifetime. Gary and I knew that we would have to find a hotel and return in the morning while we mulled over the whole idea. We left with the idea to grab a room and have a night of dining and dancing in Miami. Little did we know the entire coast would be booked. Several hours and miles later we were able to snag a room in Florida City, about an hour south of Miami. The next morning we began to pinch ourselves. We were going to buy a boat! We didn’t know how or if we could afford it, but we were going to live our dream. We returned to the staff and crew onboard Tee Time and finalized the particulars of the contract. Everyone from Admiral Yachts was so warm and friendly that we felt like part of the family immediately. Although we were not ready to say goodbye to our new friends, we had to head back to Juno Beach without telling a soul what we had done. For several months we kept our secret in fear that most everyone would think we had gone insane. October was fast approaching and we were planning another trip, this time to the Annapolis Boat show where we would become reacquainted with our new family from Admiral Yachts. After arriving at the show in Annapolis we were informed that Admiral Yachts would no longer be manufacturing the Admiral 38, but instead would build a new Admiral 40. We were going to be the first owners of this new catamaran. The surprises never end and our confidence in Admiral Yachts has far surpassed our expectations as we look over the prints for the newly designed Admiral 40. MAY 2008- read all about our voyage from Cape Town South Africa to Annapolis Maryland. 9100 miles in 47 days. The ups, the downs, the adventure of a lifetime. |
