I installed an Ipad loaded with Garmin Bluechart Mobile at the Nav Station as a Backup Chart Plotter. I can also place it at the helm. Nice addition.

It is finally Spring! You wouldn't notice it however, it has been extremely cold. Skalliwag has been splashed and she is sitting in her slip. Work on the boat has been very slow by Zahniser's and Quantum. Some of the work which was intended to be done during the offseason has been cancelled.
Skalliwag will be sporting a new look, the dodger and sail covers will now be gray. I think the color actually makes the Boat look "newer"!
One of my 2013 Season resolutions has been to do more of the work on the boat myself: making me a better boater and due to lack of funds.
I've had to deal with a couple issues so far. the foward bilge pump was seized and blew a fuse when I tried to start it. Freed the pump with some WD-40, changed out the fuse then ran it to discover it had a ruptured diaphragm. I looked thru the spare parts and found a rebuild kit on board (Thanks Scott and Sheryl!) Proceeded to take the pump out: not an easy task, ended up disassembling the pump in place until I got all the pieces off. Rebuilt it the best I could-some screws are so corroded you can't get them out. Put back togetther, reinstalled and ran it: it works!!
The shower in the Head broke off so I replaced it with one that I bought at Lowe's.
Finally the head diverter valve that selects whether the toilet discharge goes to the holding tank or overboard is leaking apparently out of the valve seal. I ordered a new one and till I get it replaced the head is out of commission unless I want sewage under the v-berth.
On a good note the engine seems to be working fine, all systems dewinterized except the AC-which I haven't had a need to run and the anchor washdown which I haven't left the slip.
The boat has a new loose footed mizzen and the main was cut along the foot to make it also loose footed. It was originally too long and the head would snag on the backstay.
The traveler has been replaced using the existing bridge.
The headsail is still off the boat-waiting on Quantum to return it together with the Staysil.
The Main mast tricolor, steaming and deck lights are still awaiting to be replaced and I think Z will also install a Wifi Boost antenna.
I am going back to the boat today to work on the boat. staying till Saturday.
North Anna Unit 2 Refueling outage starts on Sunday so there goes Spring Sailing. Hopefully I can get a daysail in sometime during the month on my day off. I'll be working 4 on 1 off.

In the Picture: Skalliwag in her slip with new Dodger and wheel cover. Still waiting for the new sail covers.

The 2012 sailing season has come to an end. Season ended early thanks to Sandy.
Zahniser's will be replacing the tricolor at the top of the mast with an LED fixture and the steaming/deck light then hauling out the boat.
Winter upgrades will include WiFi system, new mizzen sail, new canvas, new traveler and cockpit shower.
Planning on sailing up to Newport R.I. next summer!
It's going to be a long off season....
