HHS to Solomons.

31 July 2015
I cast off in the morning wit Marcella at the dock helping me out with the dock lines. No issues with traffic this time. Sailed for part of the day with the wind slowly dying from the north. Then the biting flies showed up. Dozens of flies, could not kill them fast enough without others showing up. Ended up starting the engine and motoring the rest of the way. Arrived at Z around 1500.

Marcella gave me a ride back to HHS so I could sail Skalliwag back to Solomons.
An Osprey has taken residence on top of the mast of one of the boats on T Dock.

Once tied up I went to the Marina Office, about a mile walk to pay for the slip and arrange a cab ride back to Z's. The slip would end up costing 480.00 for the week plus a $100. Cab ride. I ate a late lunch at Mangoes then walked back to the boat. Stayed overnite with the cab picking me up the next day around 1200.

I start heading north and once I'm ready to turn into Herrington Harbour Bay I see it is very busy!! So I strike mizzen and headsail and keep sailing under main alone. I was still doing 4-5 kts. Seemed like every sailboat that approached had the right of way. First one I jibed to allow him to go by. Further on a dropped the main and started motoring towards the channel that went into HHS. So I'm lined up with the breakwater and here comes another sailboat. I don't yield thinking he can just fall off right? Well neither does he. At the last moment we both decide to turn and end up almost colliding.
I get inside the breakwater. Call the Marina. Ask for slip assignment. T-1. Hust turn between U and T docks and it's the last slip on port. When I get to the slip it says T-0. Has to be it! So I go in the slip. The dock hand says "you're looking for T-1? That's on the other side of T dock! So I back the boat out and between prop walk and the wind I almost end up on the rocks on shore! I pose back Ito the slip, and back out again, this time I'm able to exit all the way back to the main fairway in reverse.
I maneuver between the traffic to get on the other side of T dock. By then the dock boy tells me I'm reassigned to T-6 but I have to go back to the ordinal side of T dock. I maneuver again and am able to dock the boat.
The rocks just to stbd of T-0.

Weighed anchor early around 0700 and motored out of the Choptank with light winds. At the mouth of the Choptank I raised sail and was sailing SE in 10-15 KT winds. Not much chop. Once I got to the western shore at around Plum Point I tacked over and was then heading towards the Little Choptank. It was now around 1100 the wind and chop were increasing. A quick check on the forecast and now it said chance of isolated storms. That's it, I decided to turn north and tuck in at Herrington Harbour South for the week.

When I got back to Skalliwag while working on the dink I kept hearing this awful crackle on the VHF. When I got done and went below I noticed battery voltage at 11.9 V!!!! It could not have had more than 130 amps out. Is the battery in the drink? With the fridge still running. I've noticed that whenever I am not plugged in the fridge runs continuously. Do I also need new refridgeration? So I turned the fridge off, battery volts recovered without the continuous 10 amp draw. Left it off overnite.
