Off we set upon the sea, to sail the islands in the lee... The Pollard family of four prepares to leave Alexandria, Va., home for 25 years, to spend two years sailing the Caribbean.

We're finally here!

After about nine days in Bimini, we departed early on January 1 and cruised across the Great Bahama Banks, anchoring late to get a few hours shut eye, then going again under a full moon and good seas, to Chub Cay. There we anchored in a very rolly anchorage, swam and snorkeled every day, and enjoyed beautiful water and warm weather. When the winds allowed, we cruised on to Nassau, crossing with winds on the nose but relatively calm seas. We have located a Starbuck with internet, a few blocks away, and David is working on repairing the water pump. We are looking forward to a visit from Rita and Jerry in about a week, and may take a quick trip to the Northern Exumas for a few days before then--Allens Cay or Norman's Cay, in time to return by the 17th.
We are enjoying the cruise and wish everyone well!

We're in the Bahamas!

12/27/2006, Bimini, Bahamas

Since St. Augustine, we have had no internet access, but have visited Vero Beach, Nettles Island, Pompano Beach, and Miami Beach.
We left No Name Harbor in Biscayne Bay for Biminia on the morning of December 23, and crossed in 15-20 knot winds and 4 to 6 foot seas, arriving about 4 p.m.
We have enjoyed visiting Bimini, and are ready to move on to Nassau, but looks like weather will hold us here for 4 or 5 more days.
We wish everyone a safe and happy new year!

Cumberland Island and St. Augustine

11/29/2006, St. Augustine, Florida

We left Tybee the Friday after Thanksgiving via the Lazaretto Creek and Wassau Sound, and had a easy cruise offshore to St. Catherine's Sound. We anchored the first night at Wahoo Creek, the next at Walley's Leg, then two nights in Cumberland Sound. We spend the day exploring Cumberland Island and enjoying both the natural beauty and the ruins. We even saw the wild horses. Then we crossed into Florida!!! and anchored below Pine Island one night and arrived in St. Augustine this morning. The weather was warm and balmy. This is a fascinating city. Our port is in the heart of the historic district. Its full of history, the shopping is great, and the Christmas decorations and lights are beautiful. We plan on putting more photos in the album. Thanks for the comments. After a few days here, we will be heading out to Vero Beach. We wish everyone the best!
