Little Farmers Cay to Georgetown
Jennie and David
02/14/2007, Georgetown, Great Exuma

After a wonderful visit to Black Point Settlement we sailed down to Little Farmers Cay last Thursday, February 8. We hiked to the cave on Great Guana Cay, then enjoyed happy hour at the Farmers Cay Yacht Club with Bill and Cathy from s.v. Pelican--free conch fritters and half price Kalik! Friday we sailed from Little Farmers to Elizabeth Harbour in calm seas and light winds. We traveled with friends on the Pelican and the Manana II. Pelican caught a nice wahoo and shared it for dinner--our first locally caught fish, and it was wonderful! It was about a six hour sail. We are still exploring Georgetown and love the area. Hope to update again soon!

Black Point Settlement
Jennie and David
02/06/2007, Black Point, Great Guana Cay, Exumas

Saturday, February 3, we crusied down to Blackpoint Settlement of Grat Guana Cay. Thsi is a wonderful anchorage, the harbor has good holding and is protected from all drections except the West. Saturday we visited town, and found a place that has beer, internet, a pool table, and allows dogs inside!
Sunday Madison and I attended one of the three churches on the island, St. Lukes Baptist Union, where the participants were few but fervent.
Sunday evening we went to a Superbowl party at Lorraines Cafe, with a very friendly crowd of 30 or more cruisers. Good food and a fun time, tho we left at half time, having arrived before 4!
Manana, the boat with a nice family from Canada and a daughter Madison's age (and a 9 year old), who we met at Staniels, is here as well. Monday the girls attended the local school--quite an experience! We got laundry done and got David a haircut, both at the "laundermat", and we should have returned to the boat an hour earlier. The front came in and the winds picked up and on the dinghy ride back it was as if someone was throwing buckets of water at us! We got soaked, but the laundry stayed (mostly) dry.
The big winds movedin later--sustained at 20-25, gusting 30-35, the holding is good, though, and there are only 20 or so boats in the harbor, so it is not too crowded. We got some sleep, but kept checking the anchor to be sure we were not dragging. (We didn't!).
The winds are still pretty brisk, but the sun is out. We like Blackpoint a lot, and will be here at least a few more days!
Hope everyone is well! Miss you all!

A little further south...
Jennie and David
01/27/2007, Staniels Cay

After two weeks in Nassau, and a wonderful but short visit from David's sister Rita, and Jerry, (with three days at the Atlantis), we sailed on Saturday, January 20, to Norman's Cay. Nassau is presently expecting to replenish their rum supply. We spent three days exploring the Normans and letting Loki run wild. We dove on the sunken plane, and enjoyed the beautiful water and weather. On Wednesday, we moved on the Staniels. For two days we swam, snorkled, swung from the halyard, (which Madison loved), then had two days of gale force winds that sent everyone looking for a safe anchorage. After two sleepless nights and one close call, we tucked in at the Staniels Cay Yacht Club, where we can drink Kalik and look at our boat safely tied to the dock. Today we rented a golf cart and ran errands, replenishing supplies, including fresh baked bread from the blue store at the top of the hill. We plan on diving in the Thunderball caves before moving on to Blackpoint.
We hope you are enjoying the winter at your latitude! Love to all.
