Dump and fill

19 October 2016 | Cambridge, MD
Today was our day to take care of boat chores such as pumpout, water fill, quick load of laundry, and plug in to charge the battery. We rewarded ourselves with a walk around town and dinner out.

Joy of sailing

18 October 2016 | Cherry Point, Little Choptank River, MD
A spinnaker run up the bay and then a close reach into the Little Choptank through lines of crab pots made for a fun day of sailing. We have been lucky to have had perfect weather and record warm temperatures for October but that will change next week.

We are so enjoying not getting up at the crack of dawn to get 50 miles down the waterway this year!

Sail to Solomons

17 October 2016 | Solomons Island, MD
Leaving our anchorage on the Honga River, the incoming current at Hooper Straights tried to suck us back east but we eventually escaped only to find ourselves in crab pot hell at the edge of the bay. With little wind and consequently little steerage we turned on the engines and headed for deeper water before trying to sail again. It was one of those days where you think you want to give up and start the engines when the wind eases but true to form the wind picked up nicely for a good screacher run across the bay to Solomons.

Along the way we spotted the new Navy destroyer Zumwalt heading down the bay. It was pushing a big bow wave and was churning up big white water behind it. Surprisingly, when the wake got to us it was just a very shallow long period swell.

Anchor down in a nice calm cove at Solomons with sunny blue skies, warm weather, and wine with Bob and Kathy on Sea Step. To top it off, after dark we saw the the Wallops Island Antares rocket launch.

Cavers on boats

16 October 2016 | Honga River, MD
We had a nice spinnaker run to meet up with Bob and Kathy. Depending on local knowledge we pulled into an anchorage that would have been good if the wind had done what the forecast said it was going to do. Not the best advice if the wind doesn't cooperate. Some beers and a few glasses of wine and it feels much better.

Spinning up the bay

16 October 2016 | Chesapeake Bay at the Potomac River
It took awhile to untangle and rig the lines to get the symmetrical spinnaker up but it was right the first time. 😎
