Despite dealing with restrictive bridge schedules, the Norfolk and Portsmouth waterfronts are always very interesting to watch as we motor by on the Elizabeth River. One thing we noticed is that all of the big Navy carriers are gone at the moment. We can guess there are a few hot spots where they might be headed. With no wind and little ship traffic, it was an easy passage through Hampton Roads.
Northern Gannets were sitting on the calm waters of the Chesapeake Bay and looked awkward as they had to get up and fly away as we passed. We started up the bay thinking we would have to stop for the night in an anchorage but as the wind started to fill in we were able to go faster and set our sights for home even if we had to arrive after dark since we were in familiar waters. We pulled into the dock at sunset, left everything on the boat for unloading the next day and enjoyed sitting on the sofa while our bodies were still feeling rocky. It's good to be home!
