We had dinner the other night at Fortinos. The Fortino family are great to the cruiser community, Maria, who sometimes runs a small tienda, will provide water, propane, and beverages and deliver then to your boat. The family has a restaurant run by Silva and his wife, and the family also runs the water taxi service that takes people from Barra, the lagoon, and the hotel to Colomilla and back.

The Rotary Club of Costa Alegre (that covers the Barra, Melaque area) had a Chili Cook-off on Saturday in the plaza in Barra. There were about 20 amateur cookers and 15 professionals. The tickets are 5 pesos a piece and one got you a taste of chili and 4 got you a beer and 6 got you a margarita.

We are in Barra de Navidad for the second time this season. We left here to spend 10 days in Tenacatita enjoying the clear water and the bocce ball. We arrived in Tenacatita on the 27th of January and had 5great days until this very weird and wild cold front came through. It was a beautiful morning but the wind started to blow around 2pm out of the east and that makes the anchorage at Tenacatita a lee shore. So we bashed our way to La Manzanilla, 4 miles to the other end of the bay. We dropped the hook and had a great afternoon windy, but safe. That night as the sun dropped to the west the lighting started. What a show!! Bolts and thunder we like we have never seen. Then at 1 am the wind started again and the rain came down and we sat and just hung on~!!! We sat thru the rest of the night and come up on what we thought was the last of the storm so we headed to Barra. We could see a squall out there but come on, this is Mexico. If it rains it does not do it for three days!! We were wrong!!!! We got the crap beat out of us. 35 knots of wind and the rain came down in sheets! It seemed everything we owned got wet. Not the typical Mexico we are used to. So we ran back to Tenacatita and sat out that night and came to Barra the next day and we have been drying out ever since!! Some times we just sit facing the sun and enjoy. The great thing about Barra is the anchorage at night is like sleeping in a marina because it is so flat. So we are catching up on on sleep!! we will post the video when the internet connection gets better.

We are fine, skiing was great, dinner with M & T for birthday was really fun and great food.
Miss you guys, love you Mom and Dad
We have arrived in Barra de Navidad!! It's just as nice as before. The Sands Hotel allows the dinghies to tie up and use the pool and showers as long as you buy their beer at the bar. Not a bad deal when it's always 2 for1 (20 pesos). We are going to stay for a couple of days and then maybe head back to Tenacatita or to Santiago, that's the only bad thing about Barra is that you are in a lagoon and the water is yucky!! So no diving off the boat here Bummer!! But the water in Tenacatita was just wonderful!!!!

After spending a week in the Barra lagoon provisioning and watching football, we made it back to the warm and clear water of Tenacatita. The Mayors raft up was last night. For those of you who don't know, the bay at Tenacatita has always had a mayor. It is mostly an honorary title but does come with some responsibilities, like organizing the weekly dinghy raft up and bocce ball on the beach. This year the Mayor and First Lady are Robert and Virginia on Harmony. They have reclaimed the office after returning from cruising Central and South America. We had about 12 dinghies, everyone brings and appetizer to share, and something to drink. Last nights raft up was a special occasion, because it was Rita's (from Overheated) Birthday, Adding to the festivities special musical guests Mike and friends from Ramble on Rose brought a guitar and a mandolin. A great time was had by all! We will spend a week or so here and then make the arduous trip back to the lagoon (16 miles) to watch the Super Bowl. Go Saints! (Chargers suck). After that it is time to start back north and back to Mazatlan.

We are still here in Tenacatita enjoying the good life! We arrived on Friday the 8th of Jan and thought we would spend a couple of days before going to Barra de Navidad, but it has been just too gorgeous to leave! The water is clear and warm (20 feet visibility and 79 degrees) and the air temp is on the high 80s. Bocce on the beach everyday and cold beers in the palapa; what a life! We have had some weird weather this year though. Usually the wind and swell direction is from the north, northwest, this year we have had some southerlies and most of the anchorages are open to the south so it can make it a lumpy and uncomfortable place. We have had some rain squalls as well which is also very unusual for this time of the year. We went up to the river to the tienda the other day and just got back in time for the rain to hit. It came down in sheets for about 15 minuets and then shut off like a faucet and the sun came back out again. Today we are going over to another boat to listen to the Chargers game. Go Chargers! We will probably get to Barra about the middle of the week (if we can leave this paradise).

We made the 30 mile trip down from Chamela to Tenacitita yesterday. Actually got some sailing in as well. The air temp is 86 and the water is 80. The water is a clear as I have ever seen it here in Mexico. Visability is at least 30 feet. Nice! We had a wonderful day on the beach and plan on staying here a week or so.
