We had fantasic pot luck Christmas dinner at the Sands hotel. We got the turkeys cooked thanks to Jonco and Joe and the cruisers brought everything else. What a feast!

Barra de Navidad
12/18/2010

We made it to Barra de Navidad. The lagoon has 11 boats and a few in the marina. We are still amazed how few boats there are. I guess some people are staying at home for the holidays, and there are just fewer cruisers. We got in to Barra just in time to watch the Chargers beat the crap out of the 49ers. What a game!! We got all the essential stuff done yesterday morning (laundry delivered, and a little fruit and veggies) and it was time to head to the Sands hotel. Pool, showers, and a great happy hour make for a fun day and then pick up clean and folded laundry. Doesn't get any better than that!!

Happy Holidays guys! There are 3 other boats out of O'side cruising ahead of you: Sirocc (Lee Pryor & Cathy Sweet), So Inclined (Mike Borer) and Pacifico ( Dave Bowser). They are on sailblogs too and currently in La Cruz.

12/18/2010

This is our friend Chip he is famous here along the Gold Coast as he loves to rub himself up and down the anchor chain. We had Chip and his buddies for the 3 days at Chamela and he and his gang followed us down to Tenacatita.

All by our lonesome
Mike & Julie
12/10/2010, Tenacitita

Amazing. We are by ourselves in Tenacitita. Past years have seen as many as 40 boats here in the two weeks or so before Christmas. Where is everyone? The lagoon anchorage in Bara de Navidad only had 6 boats in it yesterday. Rumor has it that the anchorage in La Crux is pack full so maybe folks are hanging there for the holidays. Over the past few years we have seen a change in the favored areas for cruisers to hang out in.

What caused it?

WiFi and the need to constantly update your Facebook page is what I think. Anchorages are chosen not by their remoteness or beauty but by the availability of internet. Two years ago Telcel came out with their wireless modem and cruisers latched on to them like free beer. Now you can get online anywhere you can get cell service.

Maybe their are less cruisers. You couldn't tell that by the entry's in the Baja HaHa. Record numbers over the past few years have joined the rally to Cabo.

Maybe people really believe that you chances of being gunned down by a drug crazed machine gun toting bandito is better here than downtown LA.

Maybe its the economy.

All I know is that we have this place to ourselves and its great!

Tenacatita
Mike & Julie
12/10/2010, Chamela

We left Chamela on Thursday the 9th of December to make the 29 mile passage to Tenacatita. Mike and I have a running game when we are making a passage and that's to guess how many boats are in the anchorage we are going to. Usually we have a pretty good guesses. This time we were way off! We have been in Tenacatita with as many as 45 boats and we heard last week that there were about 14 boats here, as we turned the corner we were amazed there are 2 boats here!! So we got a great spot up by "good dog beach" and we are probably going to stay here for a week or until the food and beer run out.

Finally we get to relax
Mike & Julie
12/06/2010, Chamela

We left Punta de Mita at 0130 in the morning on Sunday for the overnight passage down to Chamela. Part of the trip involves rounding the infamous Cabo Corrientes. The cape of currents can be a downright nasty place as we have learned in the past however this time its was not too bad. About 20 miles of really confused seas but without the big wind that is usually present. We got into Chamela about 1800 (6 pm) and after a quick dinner fell asleep. Now that we are in what is called the "Mexican Riviera" we are done with overnight passages until we begin the trip North back to Mazatlan in February. We will be here in Chamela for a few days and them move down to Tenacitita then Barra de Navidad for Christmas.

Still Moving
Mike & Julie
12/03/2010, Punta de Mita

We left San Blas about 0645 yesterday (Thursday) for the 55 mile trip down to Punta de Mita. Punta de Mita is located at the North entrance of Bandares Bay. Where is Bandares bay you may ask? Most people know it as Puerto Vallarta. The bay is huge stretching 25 miles across and 20 miles deep. We have spent quite a bit of time here over the years so we will bypass Puerto Vallarta on our trip south and possibly stop back on our way North. The plan is to leave here about midnight for the 100 mile trip South to Chamela.
