A Temporary Setback
29 October 2006 | San Carlos
Hello all. When last we left you we were laboring away, getting projects done. Well, last Sunday Julie and I were taking a walk and she felt something on her head. Raising her hand to swat it away she was stung by something. It looked like a honey bee stinger and sack which I removed from her right hand. Julie was not happy about being stung by a bee, but after wrapping it around a cold beer(medicinal) the pain went away. On Monday it was a little swollen as you would expect, but on Tuesday it looked like a Ballpark Frank had sprouted from her hand. Off to the doctor in San Carlos. The doctor speaks excellent English and is a plastic surgeon by trade but functions a the town GP. He thought it might be a spider bite but whatever it was it was serious. He splinted her finger and wrote a prescription for an 8 day course of antibiotics. On Thursday it was still looking bad and we went back to the doctor on Friday. He thought it looked a little better and sure enough by Friday she was definitely on the mend. Julie still has to wear the splint but the little piggy is looking almost normal. Needless to say having a nine fingered boat mate has slowed down the speed of our boat work. We are still looking at leaving around the 10th for La Paz. We have several friends who will be there then and some of them are heading down to the mainland with us.
More to come,
Mike & Juls (Frodo)
