Hassle Free Zone?
03 October 2008 | Mex Hwy 15 South of Guaymas
Several years ago the Mexican Goverment made the stretch of road between the boarder at Nogalas and Guaymas, Sonora a vehicle permit free zone If you travel any further you need to get a Temporary Import for your car. It takes about 30 minuets to get and cost about $30 bucks. There is quite a large gringo population in San Carlos just North of Guaymas so this is a major comvience for them. We never thought is was a big deal.
As with most English signs in Mexico the translations can be rather amusing. I'm sure that if you ask any of the several cars we saw pulled over for speeding they would not agree that its a truly Hassle Free Zone.
