New dock mascot
11/14/2008, Marina Mazatlan
Some docks have dogs. Some have cats. Dock 6 in Marina Mazatlan is just a bit different.
Do you belong here?

Ahh, he is sooo cute! Perfect mascot.
Vacation from our vacation
11/14/2008, Isla Venatos
What do you do when its too hot to do any boat work? Why, take a vacation from your vacation of course! About 5 miles from the marina are several islands. The largest is Isla Venatos(deer island). Ourselves, Lady Hawk and Ahea Kali loaded up the dingys and headed over for a day at the beach. We didnt see any deer but did find plenty of warm clear water and clean beaches.

Hi....sorry but whatever picture that was supposed to be here didn't make it. However, I love your web site. I'm doing lots, lots better. Played piano last Sunday for the church choir to sing. Thank God, when I fell I didn't break any fingers. Broke nothing except my temper. Love you two, Su Madre
What to pack?
11/14/2008, Isla Venatos
Snorkle gear, sunscreen, hats beer and sunglasses. Oops! Forgot the bottle opener. Fortunatly for us we brought along Julie. She wasted no time in whiping out her trusty Reef sandles that have a built in bottle opener on the bottom. Mike from Lady Hawk made good use of it. Smart girl.

All you gringos, get on the bus!
Dinner first
11/14/2008, Mazatlan
The cultural center of Mazatlan is the Plaza Machado. They hold a parade each November 1st in honor of the Dia de los Muertos. They had displays of both traditional and modern offerings to the dead, as well as lots of music. We arrived about 6:30 to have a nice dinner before the parade festivities began. Present are Mike & Marilyn from Lady Hawk, Mike & Rene from Ahea Kali, BJ and Merry from Willow, Justin from Tao Min, and Bianca from Australia. The country not the boat.
To be an official parade im Mexico you have to have fireworks. Or at least something that explodes. Its the law, trust me.

Having lived in Mexico... I can vouch for Mike and Julie. It IS the law!
Some citys hire professonal pyrotechnics companys. Here its just old 3 finger Jose and his lighter.
If you have a parade you have to have a band. The louder the better.

Beer Cart
11/14/2008, Mazatlan
One of the best parts of the parade(for us anyway) is the beer carts. In theory the beer cart leads the parade along a winding route through downtown past all of the shrines. The carts will stop by one and you are supposed to pay your respects and then toast a beer to the deceased. In reality the carts stop whenever the donkey wants and takes off again when you are next in line for a beer. How does the donkey know? Its a mystery.

The beer boys.
Parade

When the beer wagon boys got tired of pumping up the kegs our friends Marilyn and Bianca hopped aboard to lend a hand. You just got to keep the beer flowing!
Theater
11/14/2008, Mazatlan
At the end of the parade is the Angela Peralta Theater. The Theater displayed many of the traditional images of Dia de los Muertos. Paper mums, food items, candles and pictures of loved ones are all traditional offerings to those who have "gone ahead".
