Forward water tanks

11 February 2021 | Marina Real San Carlos Sonora
Mike & Julie Hatcher
We have been at the boat for a couple of months now and true to our name I have been a Slacker at updating the blog.
We knew we were going to work extensively on her so we rented a place here in San Carlos so we would be able to rip apart the boat and come here and sleep.

It even comes with its own mascot; we refer to him as "Paco the party parrot".

Mike has redone all the hose for both heads and I rebuilt both heads, sorry no pictures of that nasty job!

One of next jobs was to try and fix the leaky forward water tanks. Mike read of a product that supposedly fixes micro leaks in stainless tanks so we thought we would give it a try. First we had to drill holes in the tops of the tanks.

The starboard side is very easy to get to just open the floor boards. The port side is under the settees. We had planned on eliminating those drawers and put in lockers accessible from the top, so 2 birds one stone or drill and jigsaw?

The tanks have to be bone dry to apply this stuff so fans went in and dried for 3 to 4 days.

The stuff, we sprayed with a garden sprayer that we brought down from harbor freight.

The spraying went OK, it was a little messy and the sprayer is only good for one application and cannot keep the liquid in it overnight! If you are in this slip after us watch out of the slick spot next to the dock post! After another couple days of drying we are back in business, they seem to be holding quite well. We will see how they summer over here in Marina Seca Marina Real.

The first project on our list was to replace the old propane locker, it was totally eaten by termites and needed a remodel.

We took some measurements when we were down in September and built a new and improved box out of plywood, with a couple of coats of epoxy and fiberglass then a bright white paint. With a few modifications the new box fit in well and we are back in business!
