A few months back, Sandi Bond, my Sudbury friend dropped me a note that she was going to book a trip with her hubby and daughter and they were thinking of the Exumas. Any chance we would be in the George Town area in early/mid February? Um, yeah, really good chance! Sure enough, they arrived February 4, and we pulled in two days later. Met up at Chat ‘n Chill and cracked a few beers and caught up! Hung out at the beach, visited them at their resort (Palm Bay Beach Resort, or Hideaways), cracked a few more beer (and so on)! Went for a snorkel at the underwater cave, visited the rays at the conch hut. Took a walk along the Atlantic and waded in for a swim. Went for a fish fry dinner. Had an absolute blast! So great to see you, Sandi, Steve and Queen Elizabeth! Thanks for all the treats from back home! (maple syrup, hair conditioner, etc...)
Our other friends, David and Carolyn Rumble (from our marina) booked tickets to come spend a week on Slow Waltz. We bought our tickets for the Valentines Dinner and Dance at Chat ‘n Chill (seriously). Was a fun time, most of the cruising boats that that we know were there, so we got to chat with everybody, that was, of course, after we tore up the dance floor.
The next day we walked to the east side of Stocking Island to walk along the miles of pristine beach on the Atlantic Ocean. The water was calm enough that we waded in and played in the swells. We got clocked by some really big swells. Again, with crystal clear, sparkling blue water.
Next day we went to find some snorkelling. The snorkelling in Elizabeth Harbour is not as good as other Cays in the Exumas, but we wanted to try. We got in the dinghy and headed down to Elizabeth Island. There is a beautiful shallow sand bar there. We hung out, chased some rays, walked the sandbar, took some great pictures and just sat in the 6 inches of water and had a happy hour. We also rounded the point to the Atlantic side to snorkel over some coral heads.
We went for a great meal at the Peace and Plenty Hotel Restaurant, Dave and I finally got our lobster feed and it was absolutely delicious. And last but most certainly not least was movie night in the cockpit. We set up the laptop and curled up under the stars and watched a movie. We meant to make popcorn, but we were too comfortable.
We had an awesome visit with the Rumbles and miss them already. Thanks for all the treats from back home! (wetsuit for Guillaume, walnuts, maple syrup and starbucks coffee, etc.)
PS: Dave, that sign that you put on that other boat, they really didn’t appreciate that. Oh and, the monkeys stopped making the lewd poses as soon as you left.
