The Adventures of Smart Move
Leaving Miami
Robyn
02/25/2012, Miami, Florida

Sadly our escape from the cold north comes to an end today. However, it has been a very productive and informative trip -- not to mention fun and relaxing.

The Miami Boat Show was awesome! Talking to the representatives from various manufactures, we were amazed to realize how much we have learned about our boat, boat systems and equipment, and boat handling in the last three years. We got lots of great information and advice regarding the final outfitting of Smart Move. We even bought a water maker!

My friend, Jean, joined us for the last three days. We stayed at the Seagull Inn in South Beach (a great place right on the beach) and did absolutely nothing but talk and relax -- by the pool, on the deck off our room, walking on the beach, over a bottle of wine, and over meals. It was a great time.

We have heard when we land in Utah we will be met with snow, wind and lots of cold weather. I feel a little like Cinderella going home after the ball. Fortunately we only have to clean the fireplace for another couple of months before Smart Move whisks us away!

The Firm is Sold! Time for a Roadtrip!
Robyn
02/18/2012, Miami, Florida

Now that the sale of the firm has been finalized, Barry and I have started focusing on the logistics of our move to Smart Move. We had originally thought we would move her to St. Marten to outfit her. The more we thought about things we decided it might make more sense to move Smart Move to Puerto Rico for the outfitting. We did not know much about the area, so we decided to take a trip to the island and have a look around.

We arrived in San Juan last Saturday, what a beautiful place! We spent four days driving all over the island looking at marinas and checking out the Costco, West Marine, and Home Depot. Everyone was so nice and friendly and, luckily for us, most spoke English. Learning Spanish is on my to do list over the next few months. I feel it is rude not to try to speak the language of the places you visit.

We found a marina in Fajardo, Puerto del Rey, that will be the perfect place to outfit Smart Move. The plan is to move her up in May.

Hey there - I'm blogging about our cruising trip on Sailblogs too and happen to run across your blog. I had to reach out to you to introduce myself because we have a couple of things in common. We have the same name but spelled differently, we have a Beneteau, and I have a sister with two girls named Lilly, 9 and Chloe, 7. Too funny. We set sail from Ft Lauderdale in January, 2012 with our two boys and having a great time. Hope all goes well with the outfitting and cruising of your boat. Take care - Robin on the S/V Wicked Witch.
The Countdown Has Started

The countdown has started, the sale of the firm will be finalized by the end of the week. March 30th will be our last day of work. We are leaving the boat in charter for the month of April as we tie up all the loose ends and get the house rented out. In May we will sail the boat to Puerto Rico to outfit and provision, also to get Lilly and Chloe adjusted to boat life. Little do they know, swimming lessons are in their future -- we will post video, it should be really entertaining!
