Cemetery, Old Church, Fort

13 January 2010 | San Blas Mexico
Jodee
Today (January 13th) we took Taco & Lucy \ashore; we walked and hiked up to the fort and cemetery. The cemetery is really beautiful. They celebrate their dead. Some graves had real flowers but most had these arrangements that were made out of silk. Some were ribbons and others were flowers and of course some had both. I think the cemetery's in Mexico are the prettiest I have ever seen.

We walked over to the old church and fort. The charge to walk in is 10 pesos (aprox. $.80). It is truly beautiful. It is now wide open and would make a good dance floor. There is banana trees and coconut trees and lots of vegetation and so there were mosquitoes. We did have our bug lotion on and were not bothered to much. We then hiked up to the fort. What a view. You could see the entire city and the ocean to include the estuary from here. We sat in the shade and had a drink and snack and gave Taco and Lucy some water. It is about noon now and we started our hike back to the boat. On the way down Russ decided to buy some smoked mullet. We found this really cute restaurant on the way up so we stopped for lunch on the way down and they let our fur kids come in. The food was good and very reasonably priced. Now that we had a break and are refueled we set of to find the tortilla factory, the factory that makes flour tortilla. Most of the tortilla factory's here make corn tortillas and are not like anything you get back into the states. The corn tortillas are soft and pliable. It is sometimes hard to tell the difference until you taste one. With tortillas in hand now we make our way to pick up ice and walk back to the dinghy. The water dripping from the back pack onto the back of the leg while walking to the dinghy feels oh so good when you are hot.
Russ took all the stuff back to the boat and I kept the fur kids on shore. We will take showers when he comes back. Meanwhile Taco and Lucy have a good play run on the grass. It is now about 4:00 pm. I am very tired and only want to take a shower and be lazy. The problem with being lazy after a full day of walking and being on your feet is Mr. Rigi Morits decides to visit and now you are too stiff to move easy and feel like you are 120 years old. Yes, the bed found us at about 8:30 pm tonight.
