"Party For The Kids"

14 January 2010 | San Blas Mexico
Jodee
I woke up this morning (January 14th) at about 6:30 am. I feed the dogs and took my upon rising supplements and with computer in hand started to work on the photos that we took yesterday when about 8:00 am Norm called and asked if we had verbally gotten the invitation to come to the kids party. You see every year Norm and Jan Goldie organize this party for the kids in the villages and some of the handicap kids. Most of the mothers are raising the kids by them selves and they do not get Christmas or birthdays. For most this party is the only way they get clothes. Most of them don't wear under pants because they are so expensive and can not afford them.

Norm and Jan take donations of clothes from fisherman, cruisers, friends back in the states and also from doctors, basically any one who has anything to donate. It all will be given out and used from a pencil to clothes to a little ball. There is no discrimination. There were about 100+ kids invited. At this event the kids get food, drink, toys, shoes, and clothes. This event was called "Party for the kids" and is held on the hospital grounds behind the hospital. This is their Christmas. Christmas music was playing and the officials were there, even the mayor came. They had two big piƱatas one of a fishing boat and the other of a fish. It took about an hour or more before they were able to break them open. The looks on these children's faces were of deep appreciation and excitement.

I went and worked the girls table handing out girl shirts, pants, dresses, under panties. It was a whirlwind of a couple of hours but truly amazing how much enjoyment one gets when you see the little ones and mothers appreciation. At the end of it all everything was gone. And a good time was had by all.

I walked with Cindy and Steve on Victoria Rose back to the plaza to get a bite to eat. I had Papas Fritas (french fry's) and Steve ordered what we thought was fish tacos and Cindy had tostados. Now you are probably wondering why I am telling you this, well when Steve received his meal he actually got Tacos de Papas Fritas. Yes you got it, French Fry Taco's. Now I have never heard of this but I did see it.

We walked back to the dinghy and Steve & Cindy stopped by to say hi to Sharon & Charlie on Cast Away. It was very nice meeting them. They also have two pugs. They are very cute. I am on the boat now and writing this blog and waiting for Russ to return, so I can find out how his day was. When I left him this morning he was still in bed and mumbling something about feeling like hamburger. Write ya later.
