Tahiti Rendezvous
Jim and Carolyn on Blessing kindly offered to take me to Moorea with the rendezvous fleet so I go to enjoy 3 days of entertainment. We were entertained with a variety of dancers and musicians. We were shown and got to participate in many of the local arts and crafts. The highlight had to be the outrigger canoe races where we got to paddle in a canoe with several locals and race in heats all the way to a final. Then the winner got to race the locals. Not a very fair race but certainly great fun to participate and watch. We ate several meals of a great variety of local food; drink local cocktails and a free baguette delivered to the boat. It was a great weekend of entertainment, fun and food. While some events were free, we did pay for others, but it was well worth it. This is an annual event put on by Tahiti Tourism and Latitude 38 to welcome Pacific Puddle jumpers to the Polynesian Isles. After a weekend in Moorea, I was able to hitch a ride to the ferry terminal and took a fast boat ride back to Papeete. It was certainly nice to have a break from the boat, kind of like a weekend away that we all like occasionally.
