Voyage of the Solstice
First Leg of Baja Ha-Ha 2007
Sunny and breezy
10/31/2007, Turle Bay, Baja California

Arrived safe and sound after leg one of this year's Ha-Ha. Lynda & Peter aboard. Some of the best winds of my experience and right off the port quarter so sailing was great.

Turtle Bay is inviting, a typical Baja Landscape, dry and open. The town is a little sad however

Solstice Getting Ready for Her Big Trip
Bruce
09/20/2007, San Diego

Time is running out quickly. Solstice has been in need of some new bottom paint. Plus this is a good chance to get all the little projects done where the boat needs to be out of the water. On the picture the light-colored rectangle on the port side of the hull is the new Dyna-plate so I can start getting a good single sideband signal. Also installed by Fritz was a radar reflector and some line clutches on the mast to help organize the growing number of lines up there. So from an equipment standpoint she is ready to go

Vacation at Isthmus Cove
Bruce
07/05/2007, Isthmus Cove, Catalina Island

Motor sailed up from San Diego on a Tuesday night, perfect weather, stars and very little swell. It takes twelve hours and I arrive at the isthmus at about 8 AM. On a Wednesday it is very easy to get a good mooring during the summer. I then went to shore on the shoreboat so that the dogs could do their business, then back to the boat for a little nap. I can usually go twelve hours without sleep and it really is enjoyable to be out on the ocean at night. The dogs, with their supersensitive ears and noses, alert me to porpoises that I cannot even see. At night often the only visual clues I have of their presence are the long tubes of phosphorescence they leave as they swim along and under the boat.

Spent several relaxing days. Main activities are hiking and doing some of the many little things that have to be done to keep the boat in shape.

My friend Mary, her daughter Blake, and their Yorkie Terrier Willow arrived for the weekend. They come out on the ferry boat to keep me company, and to participate in the soon to be famous "Yacht Dog Weekend. Blake and Willow have entered the contest now three years in a row and have won every year.

Sadly the two weeks ended all too soon.
