Swim and Sun out of the Question
19 May 2007
Cassie
So here's my ink.
There are many significant symbols intertwined throughout, but my favorite translates literally as protection of vessel and self in navigation.
I am healing and cannot be in the sun or water(which is KILLING me) for two days already and three more to go. We are leaving for the Tuamutus on Tuesday and have a 500mi crossing before we are again in the islands of blue water and remote anchorages.
I would sail five hundred miles, and I would sail five hundred more just to be the girl who sailed a thousand miles to
...pick up my mom in Tahiti?
We didn't get great pictures of my birthday but guess what? It was also our server's anniversiare and the owners of the Bristol Yachtyard in London have a beautiful new one-off Ketch, Vela Carina, and 3 of her 5 crew had birthdays this weekend. May is a hot month to have a birthday.
Some of our friends have sailed in this afternoon and are going to accompany us to (yes, another) pig roast this evening. There is a Marquesean dinner party for 70 people, some cruisers and some locals, thrown by an x-cruiser named Rose who hopped off her ship like 40 years ago.
There is a beautiful classic wooden yawl with five kids our age (I'm 28 and Amy is 20, so we'll take an average) that just pulled in. Some blond just took her top off, posed for a picture Lats and Atts style on the bowsprit and did a swan dive into the bay.
My dad would say, this is a tough life but someone's got to live it. I say must be nice to be in the water.
Cheers to walking the plank,
Cass
