January...June...December!

We are underway to Rangiroa, another atoll a little over 70nm SW of Ahe where we've been for the past week tightening up ship. I read that Rangi (if you're in the know) is the second largest atoll in the world. Anyone know what the first is? It also has a population of over 3,000 people which is HUGE, relatively speaking. We have been nose to the grindstone with projects for a while now and look forward to socializing a bit in a new anchorage.

Departure was this morning around 4:30am. We pulled anchor with a bright moon lighting up the coral heads and followed our breadcrumbs out of the Ahe atoll until we were safe from pearl farm buoys and shallows. The wind has been blowing exceptionally hard for the past couple of days and has this afternoon brought with it several squalls gusting 30kn+. I slept through the first few and took a rain shower in this last one. I haven't been sleeping well in our calm anchorage. Apparently I need the motion of the ocean, so to speak, to catch some quality zzzz's. No rest for the weary? No sleep for the still.

Dad just reeled a wahoo in and we had a fresh catch du jour for lunch. I tell ya, no matter how much or what kind we catch I never get sick of fish. I don't know how non-seafood eating types thoroughly enjoy the cruising experience-or life for that matter. No offence.

One of my favorite people, who just had birthday actually(xoxo), always uses the phrase "January June December" in reference to years passing. And she's right. How time does fly or sail-if your retired. We left one year ago today.

Cheers to a unique anniversary!

this is a picture of our new friends S/Y Moonraker in Ahe who were anchored behind us for a couple of days. You see that mast? 90 plus ft. You can't not stare...
