Ocracoke 2009

We enjoy going to Ocracoke. Although last time, fog on the Pamlico Sound made the trip a little more exciting than we would have liked. I had Veteran's day off and I took two vacation days giving us five days to travel. As usual we were watching the weather very closely for many days before our departure. As luck would have it, tropical storm Ida was churning in the Gulf of Mexico. She looked pretty harmless given her relative strength and forecast direction. The overall forecast was really nice with high temperatures in the seventies and light winds. We learned long ago that actually sailing to a destination is not very likely, so we do our best to keep the little diesel serviced and ready at all times. (Continued...)

We wanted to get our friends Becky and Charles down to the boat one more time before the weather got too cold. This was the first weekend that our schedules matched. The weather forecast had looked good for the weekend and we were looking forward to a fine sail. Becky and Charles decided to book a room in New Bern. They stayed in the Comfort Inn where Steve and Donna had stayed when they were here last. All reports indicate the Comfort Inn is a good place to stay in New Bern. (Continued...)

New Bern Mumfest 2009

This was supposed to be a very exciting weekend. We had invited Steve and Donna to cruise to New Bern on Saturday morning. They were staying in a hotel and we had reservations for a slip at the Galley Stores Marina, right next door. Steve and Donna really enjoy street festivals and this was the weekend for "Mumfest" in New Bern. The plan was to sail to New Bern, take in the street festival, then have dinner at a downtown restaurant. The weather forecast had not looked good all week and weather is an all important factor when planning time on the water. (Continued...)
